Winner
Election day is over and the victor clearly stands,
the hoopla has faded with the speeches and the bands.
Campaigning rich with promises left us with hopes galore,
for solutions to the problems laid at your office door.
The stump speech that we wearied of vowed action would come first,
for the bright new future promised; we’ve developed a raging thirst.
The ring of hollow rhetoric we simply can’t abide,
not content to be ignored our eyes are open wide.
The fealty of the electorate with which you’ve been endowed
demands a noble performance that’s bound to make us proud.
Now is the time to forge alliances bringing the parties to heel,
garner the votes however you can to make your victory real.
For leadership you were elected nothing else for us will do,
the mettle of your character must now come shining through.
Representing all the people elevates you to a place,
where you must inspire confidence when we look upon your face.
So bend your knee and beseech The Lord to help you do this job,
and never forget that part of your oath where you swore;
“So help me God”
