Maintenance Please

Umbrella stand in the corner
a bush growing in a pot,
the ambiance of our lobby
could use a bit more thought.

I’m not suggesting artwork
that costs a million bucks,
but the carpet in the doorway
has developed a set of ruts.

The glass door’s had a crack for years
and the light won’t always work,
people have begun to notice
it’s what they look at first.

Our sign out front just flickers
guess the wiring has a short,
and the plan to paint the building
they mysteriously had to abort.

The roof leaks into the conference room
so they meet in the dining hall,
where meetings are attended
by virtually one and all.

Downhill seems to be the way
this company’s going fast,
guarantees on the pension plan
aren’t expected to last.

The money for new maintenance
has found a new place to go,
they’re spending it on a building
down in Mexico!
