Courageous American pioneers
didn’t all wear coonskin caps,
or carry old flintlock rifles
some were braver than that.
Standing up to injustice
by not giving up her seat,
taking on the establishment
the lady would not be beat.
Assuming the lead with courage
against the ignorance and hate,
inspiring her people to action
not content to accept their fate.
Diminutive in stature
her example was being defiant,
sitting quietly on a bus
becoming a moral giant.
