One has proved unreliable
there is no denying that,
but the other is indispensable
when you come under attack.
To hunker down and hide
pull the cork and throw it away,
but if you're going to stand and fight
go armed into the fray.
Some folks open the bottle
and others load the gun,
and the way this world is going
you may have to choose which one.
Both provide some comfort
as well as a lot of danger,
I cover the bases either way
neither one being a stranger.
Shooting at people drove me to drink
war is a terrible thing,
but drinking never caused me to shoot
those demons it does not bring.
The most useless things to have
are an empty bottle or gun,
you learn the hard way if you do
there’s no comfort in either one.
Life challenges us to be ready
when rankled or otherwise goaded,
here is a tip to help you along:
remember you must stay loaded.
