At Sea
A career in the Navy is not gravy
this is was not an easy life,
but it’s what some men love, it gets in their blood
and they never have time for a wife.
Upon the deck which is windswept
the gales and storms do blow.
Take precautions or they’ll sweep you off
into the water below.
Pitch and yawl can cause a fall
if you aren’t braced and ready.
One hand out prevents tumbling about
on a deck that is not steady.
On calmer days it’s stroll and laze
without a care in the world,
but in stormy weather wear a tether
or over the side be hurled.
This life at sea is never free
there’s always a price to pay,
develop a habit of reach and grab it
on decks that lurch and sway.
But it can be grand if you learn to stand
the motion of the ship,
getting over there you’ll see it was fair
as into exotic ports you slip.
So much to see and feeling free
the life of a seafaring man
A proud tradition for men with ambition
he will do it as long as he can.
