Purchased

Indignation over the one percent
is worn like a badge of honor,
but examine the ninety nine that's left
and see that number is a goner.

The piper plays for he who pays
and it’s not my tune I hear,
Daddy Warbucks likes his piece
but it grates upon my ear.

It takes a lot of lackeys
to keep him on his throne,
and if you are not one of them
he will find you with a drone.

Paying well as Warbucks does
blinds a lot of eyes,
but they are led serenely
by their financial ties.

As sheep led to the shearing
well fed upon the green,
we're only free within the herd
things are not what they seem.

The grass is greener on his side
wolves await beyond,
for independent minded sheep
there is nowhere to abscond.

Nope, the ninety nine is a minority
in all but slogan slang,
fattened pipers played out loud
as Daddy Warbucks sang.
