In the World

The prairie trembles with buffalo
rivers are thick with fish,
we share with the bees their honeycomb
having everything we wish.

Our bows are strong and accurate
lances long and keen,
having hunted every animal
we master all we've seen.

Rain refreshes the grasslands
and we kindle fire at need,
the ponies we catch in the canyons
carry us with great speed.

The Eagle gives us his feathers
to adorn the warrior's hair,
shells and quills will decorate
the doeskins our women wear.

Our sons will become grandfathers
as theirs will in their turn,
until the time of our passing
the last lesson we will learn.
