Hearts Gone Deaf
We live in fear of rejection
reacting to it so many ways,
the need for being accepted
colors all of our days.
Stoics hold themselves proudly
as sycophants fawn and cower,
mewling for love and acceptance
sniffing at the throne of power.
Pleading seldom gets heeded
while strength is heard without sound,
presenting a case for attention
standing firm on solid ground.
Crusading mute and immobile
silent testimony on display
of abilities and accomplishments,
exhibiting scars of the fray.
Words dripping deceit and failure
are best abandoned as no good,
relying on strength of character
to be completely understood.
